Easy Lemon Butter Salmon and sautéed Brussel sprouts. Salmon pan seared in a lemon butter sauce and served with a side of Brussel sprouts.

This tasty pan seared lemon butter salmon is filling, flavorful, and healthy. There are so many great ways to prepare salmon. This recipe is quick but does not sacrifice flavor or appeal. If you are not a fan of salmon almost any fish, or scallops, shrimp, calamari, clams, or mussels will taste great with the combination of ingredients in this recipe.

I also added a side of pasta to this dish when I ate it for dinner, that is what you will see in the picture. However, I did not include those steps in the recipe, I added the pasta because I already had some cooked and left over from another meal.

If you would like a lemon butter salmon pasta recipe, just add some cooked pasta into the dish when you add the lemon juice. Then sauté for a few minutes with the salmon while mixing the sauce around to coat the pasta.

If you would like a creamy lemon butter salmon, add a few tablespoons of heavy cream to the recipe when you add the lemon juice. Then, sauté for an additional 2 minutes while spooning the liquid from the skillet over the salmon.

Invent Your Recipe

Invent Your Recipe:
In this lemon butter salmon recipe I am using salmon as the main ingredient. However, this easy lemon butter sauce would also work well with shrimp, scallops, chicken, or pork. For chicken and pork I would recommend cutting the meat into bite size pieces then sautéing in the sauce.
You can mix up which vegetables you use with this dish. Green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini are all great options.
This recipe is mild in the spice department, with just the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and lemon juice creating the flavor profile. Feel free to change this up with some of your favorite seasonings. Some suggestions are add dill, chili powder, oregano, basil, thyme, white pepper, or cayenne pepper.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lemon Butter Salmon

What is lemon butter sauce made of?

A simple and easy lemon butter sauce is made of melted butter, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

What flavors go best with salmon?

Flavor profiles that go well with salmon are salty, creamy, tart, and sweet. For salty I like olives, soy sauce, and marinated artichokes. For creamy I like butter, yogurt, heavy cream. For tart I like vinegar, lemon, and lime. For sweet I like honey, maple syrup, and BBQ sauce.

Is it best to cook salmon in oil or butter?

I would say this is personal preference. At high temperatures oil is more forgiving, so if you are using butter to sauté or sear salmon be careful not to burn the butter.

What seasoning is best on salmon?

Some seasonings that go well with salmon are peppers (all types), garlic powder, onion powder, ginger, paprika, mustard, oregano, basil, thyme, chili powder, and dill. There are many others, but these are some good once to start with.
