Master Base Recipe: Easy Pork Stir Fry

The purpose of this blog is to demonstrate how a base recipe, in this case, Pork Stir Fry, can create a new recipe with a few ingredient changes. First, we create a recipe, then we taste the recipe, and then we change up the ingredients to develop a new recipe from the original recipe.

This is the innovative part of the process. That is why our approach to cooking is: create, taste, innovate.

Chef’s Pro Tips for the Perfect Stir Fry

Dry Your Meat: Before seasoning your pork with salt and pepper, pat it dry with a paper towel. This ensures the pork sears and browns in the pan rather than steaming, which locks in the flavor.

The “High Heat” Rule: Stir fry is all about speed. Get your pan or wok very hot before adding the oil and garlic; you should hear a loud sizzle the moment the pork hits the pan.

Uniform Slicing: Slice your pork and vegetables into similar sizes. This ensures everything cooks at the same rate, so you don’t end up with overcooked meat and raw veggies.

How to Pivot Your Base: Invent Your Next Pork Innovation

Ready to create recipe #7? Try these “Stir Fry Pivots”:

  1. The Nutty Pivot: Add a handful of toasted cashews or peanuts at the very end for extra protein and a satisfying crunch.
  2. The Spicy Pivot: Add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of Sriracha to the stir fry sauce for a bold heat.
  3. The Fruit Pivot: Add fresh pineapple chunks or sliced mango to the “Peppers and Onions” version for a sweet and savory tropical twist.
  4. The Grain Pivot: Instead of serving over rice, toss the stir fry with cooked lo mein noodles or even spaghetti to change the texture entirely.

Notes

Invent Your Recipe:
Having a bottle of stir fry sauce in the house if something I have done for a while. It is a quick way to jazz up a dish with sweet flavor. If you do not have stir fry sauce in the house you can use some soy sauce and honey for a sweet sauce.
Many vegetables would work in this dish as a replacement for the broccoli. I have used green beans, brussels sprouts, cabbage, asparagus, and peppers and onions in this dish one time or another. Let you imagination lead you toward your version of this recipe.

If you are looking for my fastest dinner solution, this Quick Pork Stir Fry with Mixed Vegetables is the perfect recipe to keep in your back pocket.

I’ve designed this version to be an easy weeknight win by using a mix of broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower, and for a major time-saver, I actually recommend using a high-quality package of frozen mixed vegetables!

While this is only a subtle “Pivot the Base” from my first version that used fresh snow peas and baby carrots, I love how the variety of these vegetables changes the texture and makes the dish feel even heartier.

It’s a 15-minute meal that proves you don’t need a lot of prep time to create a healthy, home-cooked eating experience.

In this recipe I am using frozen vegetables. I tend to use them during the week or when I do not have the time to prepare fresh vegetables. You can use fresh vegetables in this recipe. If you do, add them to the skillet after removing the pork and sauté them until they are tender (5-7 minutes). They continue with the recipe from there.
In terms of changes to this recipe, you can add in some spice with crushed red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper. The vegetable choice here is entirely yours; green beans, peas, peppers and onions, spinach, and asparagus would all work well with this recipe.

Pork with California Vegetable Medley (Healthy 26-Minute Stir Fry)

The Pork Stir Fry Base Series

Master one simple protein base and unlock 6 healthy weeknight meals. This is part of the “Invent Your Recipe” series:

I’m excited to share my Pork with California Vegetable Medley, a recipe that is perfect for those busy nights when you need a nutritious dinner on the table in under 30 minutes.

For this version, I’ve taken lean boneless pork chops and “Pivoted the Base” by using a frozen California vegetable medley, a colorful mix of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, along with savory sliced onions. By adding a splash of soy sauce to the stir-fry base, I’ve created a deeper, saltier flavor profile that perfectly complements the sweetness of the vegetables.

It’s a wonderful example of how I use my ‘Create, Taste, Innovate’ method to turn a few frozen staples into a completely fresh and exciting eating experience.

Notes

Invent Your Recipe:
In this recipe I am using a bag of frozen California vegetable medley to make things quicker and easier. You can definitely use fresh vegetables, however, that will change the steps to this recipe a bit.
To use fresh broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots you will first need to cut the vegetables into similar size pieces. This will ensure the vegetables cook evenly. After the first part of the recipe, when you are preparing the pork, you will add the sliced onion and sauté for 2 minutes, then and the other vegetables to the skillet and sauté for 3-5 minutes, mixing occasionally, until the vegetables begin to get softer. You may need to add some more oil if the leftover oil from cooking the pork is not enough. After this step, continue on with the recipe.
If you are looking for an alternative to pork, I have also made this recipe with chicken pieces, steak pieces, and shrimp. If you want a vegetarian stir fry, remove the pork from this recipe and sauté up the vegetables with the rest of the ingredients. Better yet, add in some more vegetable like peppers, green beans, asparagus, spinach, or snow peas.

The Pork Stir Fry Base Series

Master one simple protein base and unlock 6 healthy weeknight meals. This is part of the “Invent Your Recipe” series:

I am excited for you to try this Stir Fry Pork with Green Beans, because it features one of my favorite flavor combinations: savory pork and tender sweet potatoes.

For this version, I decided to “Pivot the Base” by adding diced sweet potatoes and snappy green beans into the skillet with a splash of soy sauce for a deep, umami finish. I love how the natural sweetness of the potatoes balances the saltiness of the sauce, creating a hearty and filling meal that feels completely different from a traditional vegetable stir-fry.

It is a perfect example of my ‘Create, Taste, Innovate’ method, showing you how adding a root vegetable can transform a simple stir-fry into a robust, all-in-one dinner experience.
