Welcome to the second recipe in our Pasta with Sausage series of recipes. In this version, Pasta with Sausage and Broccoli, we are using broccoli and onions to change up this dish. This recipe is a very subtle change, as the first version of this recipe calls for peas and marinara sauce. However, a small change like this really does make a completely different dish and eating experience.

How to Make Pasta with Sausage and Broccoli
Preparing the Farfalle:
- Prepare the farfalle according to the instructions on the package.
Preparing the Sausage:
- While the Farfalle is cooking. Begin by removing the sausage from the castings. Next, in a large skillet on high heat add the extra virgin olive oil and sauté the garlic until golden (about 2 minutes).
- Reduce to medium heat and add in the sliced onion and sauté for 2 minutes, mixing occasionally. Next, add in the sausage and sauté for 5 minutes to brown, while mixing thoroughly and breaking up the sausage.
- The below picture shows you what the sausage should look like before moving on to adding in the broccoli.
Bringing the Recipe Together
- Continuing on medium heat add in the broccoli and vegetable stock and cook for 5 minutes, mixing occasionally.
- The below picture shows you what the dish looks like before adding in the farfalle. If you like you broccoli on the softer side, add in a few extra minutes of cooking at this step.
- Finally, add in the cooked farfalle and red pepper flakes and cook for 2 more minutes, mixing occasionally to incorporate all of the ingredients.
- The picture below shows you what the dish should look like after the farfalle is added and has been cooked for 2 minutes.
How To Serve Pasta with Sausage and Broccoli:
- Place the pasta with sausage and broccoli in a large serving bowl and sprinkle with grated cheese.

- 1 lb farfalle
- 16 oz. sweet sausage
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 4 cloves of garlic sliced
- 1 sweet onion sliced
- 1/2 cup vegetable stock
- 2 tbsp. cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
