Notes
Invent Your Recipe:For this roasted pizza sauce, I am using crushed tomatoes. I like to use crushed tomatoes because it makes for a thicker finished sauce. You could also use unseasoned tomato sauce, tomato puree, or whole peeled tomatoes (hand crushed). They will all make for a tasty pizza sauce, however, the main difference with be the thickness and chunkiness of the finished product. You could also make this sauce on the cooktop in a sauce pan. Just add all of the ingredients, bring to a simmer, and cook for 60 minutes, mixing occasionally. You will be missing the roasted flavor of the tomatoes, however, the sauce prepared this way will also taste great. Just be advised, the sauce will finish thinner when cooked on the stovetop, which might impact your decision when making this for pizza or for a dipping sauce.
