French Fried Potatoes Recipe. Cut russet potatoes, seasoned with salt and pepper, fried to perfection, and served as an appetizer of side dish.
If you have never cooked homemade french fries I highly recommend it. Pretty much anything that is deep fried tastes great, and hand cut potatoes is no exception.
What is nice about making these French fried potatoes yourself is the fact that you can control the size and thickness of the fried potato. I enjoy a meaty fry with a nice bit, that is why I tend to make mine from scratch, instead of buying them from the store.
For a healthier and quicker cooking method try and air fryer. See the invent your recipe section below for the details.

How to Make French Fried Potatoes
Preparing the potatoes:
- Peal the russet potatoes and cut into strips. Alternatively, use a French fry slicer for uniform fries.
Cooking the Fries:
- In a dutch oven or deep fryer, add 3 cups of canola oil and heat to 350 degrees.
- Next, in small batches ensuring not to overcrowd, add the potato strips and fry until golden brown (about 5-7 minutes). Make sure to stir the fries occasionally so they cook evenly and do not stick.
- Remove the fries from the oil and drain. While still hot, season with salt and pepper. Repeat these steps with the remaining potato strips. If needed, add an additional cup of canola oil.
How to Serve French Fried Potatoes

Cutting the potatoes into strips like fries is one way you can fry them. Another way is to cut them into thin slices and make potato chips. A third way is to cut them into thicker slices for another fried experience. Frying potatoes in any fashion tastes great!
For a change up and sweeter option try sweet potato fries!
For an alternative cooking method that is healthier and quicker try air fryer fried potatoes. Mix the sliced potatoes with some olive or canola oil, place evenly in the air fryer, and air fry at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are crunchy and tender.
